This is a project I’ve been working on for six years - a replica linking book from the video game Myst.
Inside the book is a full desktop computer, completely self-contained without any external wires or hardware. In the above photo, the embedded screen isn’t just showing a still photo or a video: it’s running a full copy of real Myst PC edition. On board is a copy of all the Myst games. It’s fast enough it plays all of them smoothly (even End of Ages at ~30fps). You play the games by touching the touch-screen.
my jaw is just hanging open

Over the years I’ve had people tell me that before they come to shoot with me they’ve googled me to see what I look like, and usually think that I’m a middle aged blonde woman, due to the fact the Secretary General of the Eurpoean Commission is also named Catherine Day, and photos of her plus my photography come up on google. I pretty much always stay away from cameras, but I thought I’d set the record straight! I’m 25, and this is me, looking stupid :p

Karolina Laskowska Review
I stumbled upon this designer on Twitter, talking to a mutual friend. She had a promotion on for a harness, which of course i instantly put an order in after bothering her with a million measurement questions. At first, it looked like we would just be two distance mutual people with equal knowdlege of the others existanece, as reltionships on the internet usually go, however we got talking and i can safely say she is a person worthy of her success.
I discovered she was near enough local to my area in the south, and got jabbering about the joys of Wollaton Hall in Autumn and everything there was to do and visit in Nottingham. After taking a longer and deeper look into her pictures and past work, pieces began popping out at me as i recognized them from other people i admired, such as Catherine Day, Felice Fawn and others, and had even been in previous contact with a really good friend of mine, Lucinda of Fawn and Faith. So things were really proving out to be a small world.
Karolina showed the depth of her heart when i had to cancel my order for the harness, for the past week or so my dog had been suffering immensely and the money was needed for more urgent things, and refunded me without so much as a fuss and had true understanding of the situation. Unfortunately i have not had the chance to review a piece of clothing in the flesh, but under the eye of other critical designers, even they said it was top notch quality materials and design. However i hope very soon to own a piece i can shoot and review the life out of for you all.
Her website is beautiful, her products photographed in a clean and minimalism way, at the standard of a high end London fashion designer. I have no clue as to how old she is, but she certainly has done well and has the potential for so much more.
The majority of people don’t understand the pressures of solo designers who create everything to order and bespoke or custom pieces, and it is difficult to find one with a heart worth investing in. It is usually the case that if customer service is shoddy, then their work will be too. I am so happy to have “met” Karolina, and hope we can venture to Wollaton one day for a visit, and so glad i can call her a friend and not just another face in the industry who i can ogle from far away ;)

I have an obsession with all things harnessy, so naturally, the straps and pieces on her site were an instant attraction to me, particularly Zuzanna frame bra, Elzbieta set, Kordellia Harness and pretty much all of her bespoke collections which you can see in her gallery. I would wear most of these as outerwear - show them off the the world, on top of dresses/underneath them, i will have to draw a picture i think. But it would also be part of my personal prop collection for shoots, as i just seem to hoard precious things. I have so many thoughts on how they could be worn, at first i thought just black, dark makeup, neat hair, but now, what about all white with the opaque clash of black on milky skin and ghostly features!? Oh dear…inspiration just hit me hard!
Here is a link to Karolina’s website and blog :) and i shall post that picture idea up soon!

Competition time!

My designs in the window of Justine & Juliette
Oh my goodness, I’ve been so overwhelmed by the amount of support from everyone recently! It’s been quite a humbling experience the amount of lovely comments and gestures that I’ve seen from all of my friends, family and fans and it really helps to cement in my head that starting this brand was a good idea (that and the fact that I’ve seen my pants in a shop window, which was quite frankly pretty damn awesome). I’ve been promising it for a while on facebook: that once I hit 1000 ‘likes’ I’d have a competition. So here we go with competition time! There are going to be four prizes:
- Either a £100 voucher to my online shop OR a mystery bespoke piece of lingerie – one-of-a-kind and made to your size!
- Either a Zuzanna frame bra or Kordelia harness
- A set of embellished leather pasties or a lace eyemask
- A 25% off discount code for my online shop with no expiry date
There’s a few ways to enter this competition and ways to get more than one entry – everything is listed below!

- Tweet about me (@karolinazl) and link this giveaway on twitter – 1 vote

- Illustrate your favourite Karolina Laskowska design (please email your entries to info@karolinalaskowska.co.uk) – 10 votes (there will be a special extra prize for the best illustration as voted for on facebook)
I have a feeling this might all be a little excessive but I really am so happy to have reached this landmark and truly want to celebrate it! I hope you all enjoy entering this competition and the very best of luck to you all <3 The competition will close Sunday 30th September so get your entries in!
Karolina xx
